Come Stay With Us
All of the Eagle Lake Recreation Area campgrounds are located on Eagle Lake and many sites are waterfront. The campgrounds offer a great way to experience the area providing quick access to Eagle Lake, the Marina, and the 5.2 mile paved bike and hiking trail, all while staying in the pines of the beautiful Lassen National Forest surrounded by local wildlife. Our campgrounds are clean, safe and staffed by friendly, helpful hosts. We now offer RV hook-ups, tent only, large group, and other specialized camping sites – there is something to suit every camper.
All of our facilities have flush toilets, trash collection, drinking water, and firewood for sale. Each campsite has a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. The Eagle Lake Marina is no further than five miles from any site and offers additional amenities such as hot showers, laundry, and groceries. There is a dump station located across the street from Merrill Campground and is available to all in the area for a $5.00 fee. Interpretive programs, such as guided nature walks and Junior Ranger programs are also offered to all of our campers during the peak season.
Many of the sites are available for reservation by calling Reserve America at 877-444-6777 or by going to www.recreation.gov.

Other Campgrounds on Lassen National Forest
The Lassen College Foundation also manages Crater Lake, Bogard and Goumaz Campgrounds located on the Lassen National Forest. These are small, relatively primitive campgrounds and do not have hosts. These campgrounds offer drinking water, vault toilets and trash removal. All of the sites have fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. There are no reservations available for these sites and they are $13.00 per night.
Crater Lake Campground
Crater Lake Campground has 17 campsites on the shore of secluded Crater Lake. The parking spurs are paved but small, so cab over campers and tents are recommended. There is also a day use area and primitive boat launch ramp. Gasoline powered boats and jet skis are not allowed on the small lake, but the fishing and the unique scenery make it worth the trip. Crater Lake is aptly named for existing in the deep cone of an inactive volcanic site. Pines and mountains of volcanic rock surround the area. Clear, fresh drinking water is fed from a pure underground well.
Operating Season
Due to the high altitude and off-the-beaten-path road access this campground is not open until June 1 at the earliest and closes October 15.
Directions
From Hwy 44 take the Crater Lake turn at the Bogard Work Station and go about 7 miles on the dirt road till you dead end at the lake. The road is accessible for all vehicles but can get very washboarded.
Goumaz Campground
Goumaz is 5-site campground located on the 25-mile Biz Johnson Trail that runs from Susanville to Westwood. It is a great place to stop if traveling the Biz (hiking, biking and horse back riding allowed – no motorized vehicles), but is also accessible from Hwy 36. The Susan River that runs right beside it is visible from all the sites. Horses are allowed to be tethered outside of the campsites. The access and parking spurs are gravel and small, so only small trailers/RV’s and tents are recommended.
Operating Season
Memorial Day – October 15
Directions
From Hwy 36 take the Goumaz turnoff south of Hog Flat. Travel about 1 mile on the dirt road and turn left at the Goumaz Campground sign. The campground is about two miles down; you will see the information board.
For more information on the Biz Johnson Trail see: www.bizjohnsontrail.com
Bogard Campground
Located about 2 miles off Hwy 44 this 11-site campground is situated right next to Pine Creek. It has nice shaded sites tucked in the pines and low occupancy making a peaceful getaway location. Because it sits right on the water table it is usually not accessible until June and remains open till October 15.
Directions
From Hwy 44 take the Bogard Campground turn off and follow the dirt road for about two miles until you see the Bogard Campground sign on your right. |
